Some clay soils swell when wet and shrink as they dry, which can crack buildings. The higher the exposure, the more building precautions are needed. A risk prevention plan (PPR) maps the areas exposed to a hazard (flooding, ground movement, an industrial site…) and sets building rules there. The Géoportail de l'Urbanisme does not list every plan yet.
